Past Mishaps

Tin Tin Tin
Carl Wilson's (the Globe columnist, not the deceased Beach Boy) monthly "live mash-up night." Past eps have featured performances from members of Hidden Cameras, LAL, The Unicorns and stuff. GPC mostly cranks the intermission music and, when patrons are so inclined, a little INXS and Gil Scott-Heron for the disco feet. Check Carl's site for upcoming shows.
The Wet Project
Jenn Goodwin asked GPC to rock the crowd with a little Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Ted Leo and Snoop for her contemporary dance show's four night run at The Drake. Super Jenn, Justine and Sarah were awe-inspiring and the opening night was bonkers, but the best part was we watched the show four times for free. Bonus!
GPC Xmas Party 2003
Our Edinburgh and London conspirators were visiting, so we decided to have a fun holiday to-do. Jams were so packed that our poor hosts Cocktail Molotov had to start a line-up. (And we had to pretend that everybody was close & personal.) Here are some photos, for posterity.
GPC Socials
We used to do a weekly party at a Korean ex-karaoke bar. The sounds were hot, there was a lot of equal opportunity slutty dancing, and people played board games. There was also a smoke machine and a wall of televisions. Sometimes one of us would dress up like a giant turtle and make friends.
Shift State Of The Net 2003 / Shift 10th Anniversary Party
Through secret unsavory connections, the Conspiracy snuck past the bouncers and provided some non-stop pop for Shift magazine readers. The banging beats that had the hips shaking and the lips quaking? That wasn't us. We were in the little room, playing Le Tigre and Missy for the kids.
Kiss Machine / Novel Amusements launch party
Zine buds Kiss Machine and Novel Amusements asked us to join their crazy two ring circus, in effect making it a proper three ring circus. Kiss Machine collects neat stories about stuff like cars & religion and sex & condiments. Novel Amusements is a CD-zine featuring home videos, animations and other video hits that will blow your mind to Chinatown.
Shannon & Gary's wedding
Shannon and Gary rock! Not only are they an awesome couple, but they also had one sweet wedding — and asked the Conspirators to be the musical selectors for the evening. We were so excited, we even dressed up. If you'd like to hear the Stripes, the Cure and Maestro Fresh Wes at your nuptials, email us.
THIS Magazine benefit party
THIS Magazine may be 35 years old, but it's hella feisty. At the behest of the Ladies of the Left, the Conspiracy seduced the crowd with The Kills, Outkast and Irene Cara and got so wild we broke our one pair of headphones. Thumbs up to the couple slow dancing to Let's Get It On at the end of the night!
Channel 3 benefit
Jenn, Justine and Heidi put foot to ass. The fundraiser for their Contemporary Dance Conspiracy show featured not only crack futuristic robo-dancing but also a totally hot kissing booth. Meanwhile, the Conspiracy pitched in with some Peaches, Joy Division and Disco Rod Stewart. GPC gives modern dance an A+.
GPC UK
One of our London conspirators instigated a special one-off at Dragon Bar in Shoreditch. If you've been to Dragon, you'll know it's fresh but a little too cool for school. They almost gave the Conspiracy the finger when they found out we'd be playing CDs. So we brought some old OMD records and pretended to spin. Suckers.
Tempting Faith DiNapoli launch party
Lisa Gabriele is one cool, cool lady and she wrote a fun book called Tempting Faith DiNapoli. (She also writes for Nerve and did that thing for Vice.) Her two rules for the party: 1) No tunes pre-1977 and 2) No tunes post-1985. Which meant lots of Flashdance and Van Halen. We don't have to tell you that it was super nice.
